An hour in the traffic jam
Finally, the bell rang and the History period was over
and school was done for the day. I packed my things with the speed of lightning
and rushed through the corridors. All the rush was only to get the window seat
in the school bus. I got the expected seat and we were off back home. A few miles
from school were fine as it is every day but then suddenly, our bus was standing
in the middle of a traffic jam.
There
was an accident couple of miles ahead, resulting in this traffic jam and chaos.
The conductor got down and went to check the exact cause of the traffic jam. As for
us children we were concerned for like a second and then we were busy chatting playing etc. The conductor returned and announced that many vehicles
were stuck and it would take almost an hour to clear the traffic. He added that
there is no need to worry and that our parents would be informed about the
event, the other students didn’t seem bothered or tensed but I was feeling
quite uneasy as if something bad is going to happen. I just knocked that
feeling off and started talking with a friend sitting near me.
It was a sunny day and afternoon time so the heat was
rising. Slowly were feeling quite hot and the water with us was also getting
over. I was in a state of complete dehydration and was feeling very hungry but luckily,
I had some food left in my lunchbox so I satisfied my hunger with whatever I had.
The others weren’t lucky enough and were starving! We were stuck in a traffic
jam in the middle of the highway and there were no food stalls nearby. The intense
heat with hunger and thirst was taking a heavy toll on us. It seemed ages since
we were stuck in the traffic jam but then we could see some ray of hope. The traffic
was moving and soon we were on our way back home. The conductor was sharing the
water and other supplies that were in the bus. The dreadful hour was nothing
less than a horror movie which was finally over.
I finally
reached my house and got down from the bus and my mom was shocked to see the
exhausted faces of the students. She quickly brought bottles of water for
everyone and some snacks until they reach their home. Even I was exhausted and
was waiting for a tasty lunch after all the sufferings due to a few hours in a
traffic jam.
